The Golden Era of Japanese Hi-Fi, Vol. 1: Pioneer, Sansui, Technics, Kenwood

Sale price$32

A history of four Japanese hi-fi manufacturers, Pioneer, Sansui, Technics, and Kenwood, tracing each from its founding through the internal competition that drove Japanese audio engineering between 1960 and the late 1990s. The book follows individual figures behind the brands, including Pioneer co-founder Nozomu Matsumoto, who hand-built loudspeakers in a Tokyo workshop in 1937, and the Kasuga brothers, who left the company they founded to pursue a different standard of design. Draws on period Japanese audio press, including Stereo Sound and MJ Audio Technology, alongside model specifications and circuit histories.

Author Maurizio Giannotti has been collecting, disassembling, and studying Japanese hi-fi systems since 1979.
